Diversity and Democracy in an uncertain world
We invite you to be part of a conversation about some ideas we’ve been exploring about how we experience the phrase ‘diversity, democracy and inclusion’ in our professional and personal lives. Reka is passionate about the philosophy and practice that informs her work as an interculturalist, while Liz is more familiar with facilitating long-term systemic change that addresses matters of values, power dynamics and social justice in organisations. Our conversations are wide ranging, full of questions, dilemmas and sharing stories that often excite and challenge us to reflect on whether we truly have the power to contribute to a more equitable and just world
As we look forward to meeting you all, we have three key ideas in mind:
- To explore different perspectives around how we are ‘formed’ in different contexts and environments
- To consider our ‘taken for granted assumptions’ around how we frame diversity and inclusion in our personal, professional and civic lives
- To question our ability to take meaningful action, especially when there are challenges to our integrity, or there are knee-jerk responses to racism and violence.
We will share some experiences and why we are questioning the ways we work and are no longer satisfied with feeling isolated from the communities that are evolving and changing around us. Most importantly, we invite you to share with colleagues as we support each other to share your hopes and concerns about what we see happening in our different worlds.
We look forward to meeting you and exchanging thoughts and ideas!
