  • Rule Breaker, Rule Makers

    19 Mai 2020  17:00 - 18:30

Her recent book Rule Makers, Rule Breakers: How Tight and Loose Cultures Wire the World describes her work on this critical cultural difference and shows why cultures evolve to be tight or loose.

Through field work as well as experimental, neuroscience and computational studies she explored the consequences of the tight-loose-combination for nations, states, organizations, and individuals and thus explains the degree to which groups have strict or permissive norms. Since cultural conflicts related to tight-loose abound, the webinar with Michele Gelfand will also draw on her research and expert knowledge in conflict management.

We will focus on very practical questions, like how we as intercultural trainers, consultants and coaches can make use of the tight-loose-concept in cultural conflicts and in our work in general.

Dr. Michele Gelfand is a Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland. Trained by Harry Triandis, one of the founders of cross-cultural psychology, Gelfand is a pioneer of research on cultural tightness-looseness.

We are looking forward to welcoming Professor Michele Gelfand to the SIETAR webinar series.
